Ethereum Exchange Flow Data API: CEX Inflows, Outflows & DEX Swaps
Where to get exchange inflow and outflow data for Ethereum tokens, how wallet-level exchange flow differs from exchange-wide metrics, and why exchange transfers and DEX swaps belong in separate columns.
Published 2026-10-16 · Facts checked 2026-10-16 · Deep Blue Alpha
Short answer (as of Oct 16, 2026): Deep Blue Alpha provides wallet-level Ethereum exchange flow through a REST API: every deposit to and withdrawal from a known exchange address by 20,000+ tracked whale wallets, labeled separately from DEX swaps (CEX_DEPOSIT, CEX_WITHDRAW, SWAP_BUY, SWAP_SELL). Per-token totals come over 24h, 7d and 30d with the split fields exchange_withdraw_usd, exchange_deposit_usd, dex_buy_usd and dex_sell_usd.
Access: Whale plan $79.99/mo ($49.99 founder) with 25,000 calls/day for personal use; Business $299/mo for commercial use with 250,000 calls/day (checkout opens soon). For exchange-wide netflow series per asset, CryptoQuant (credits on every plan, free Basic tier) and Glassnode (API with Professional, from $584/mo billed annually) are the metric-style alternatives. Ethereum mainnet only; history from Oct 7, 2026.
“Exchange flow” means two different products in crypto data. The first is an exchange-wide series: how many coins of an asset moved onto or off all known addresses of an exchange in a period, for every user of that exchange. The second is wallet-level flow: which specific wallets sent coins to an exchange or pulled them off, with the transaction hash. Both are useful; they answer different questions. This page covers what Deep Blue Alpha provides (the second kind, for Ethereum whales), how it compares with metric providers, and how to read it without mislabeling transfers as trades.
Why exchange transfers and DEX swaps must be separate columns
Most whale flow on Ethereum is not trading. In the Oct 16, 2026 sample of tracked-whale moves, 3,517 of 4,536 rows (78%) were exchange deposits or withdrawals and 1,019 (22%) were DEX swaps. Our September 2026 study measured the USD side: about 97% of whale dollar flow was exchange transfers. A coin leaving an exchange for a whale wallet is commonly read as the accumulation side of flow, but it is not a purchase — what happened on the exchange’s own books is not visible on-chain. A feed that adds withdrawals and swaps together as “buying” is answering a question the chain cannot answer.
That is why every Deep Blue Alpha row carries both an action and a venue_type, and every per-token aggregate splits the totals.
The four move labels
| action | What happened | venue_type | A trade? |
|---|---|---|---|
CEX_WITHDRAW | Tokens left a known exchange address for a tracked wallet | exchange | No |
CEX_DEPOSIT | A tracked wallet sent tokens to a known exchange address | exchange | No |
SWAP_BUY | A tracked wallet received the token in a DEX swap | dex | Yes |
SWAP_SELL | A tracked wallet gave up the token in a DEX swap | dex | Yes |

What the exchange-flow endpoint returns
GET https://deepbluealpha.io/api/v1/token/{symbol}/flow
X-API-Key: dba_your_key_here
data.windows["24h" | "7d" | "30d"]:
net_flow_usd, buy_volume_usd, sell_volume_usd, trades, wallets,
dex_buy_usd, dex_sell_usd, exchange_withdraw_usd, exchange_deposit_usd
buy_volume_usd and sell_volume_usd are the accumulation side (DEX buys plus coins pulled off exchanges) and the distribution side (DEX sells plus coins sent to exchanges). Use the four split fields when you need exchange flow alone. /api/v1/top-tokens?tf=1H|24H|7D ranks tokens by tracked-whale flow, and /api/v1/transactions returns individual moves newest first with cursor pagination.

How to evaluate an exchange-flow feed
- Decide whether you need wallet-level rows or per-asset totals. Per-asset exchange netflow series come from metric providers such as CryptoQuant and Glassnode. Rows of individual exchange deposits and withdrawals by named wallets come from a wallet-level feed such as Deep Blue Alpha.
- Check how deposits and withdrawals are separated from swaps. A withdrawal from an exchange is not a purchase. Make sure the feed labels exchange transfers and DEX swaps separately; Deep Blue Alpha uses CEX_WITHDRAW, CEX_DEPOSIT, SWAP_BUY and SWAP_SELL with a venue_type column.
- Check whose flow is counted. Exchange-wide flow includes every user of the exchange. Deep Blue Alpha counts moves where the wallet on its side is one of 20,000+ tracked whales, which is a narrower and different question.
- Check history depth. Deep Blue Alpha keeps tracked-whale moves from Oct 7, 2026; other exchange-flow rows for 30 days. Long backtests need a provider with deeper history.
- Pull a sample and reconcile it. Load /data/sample.csv, group by token and venue_type, and compare totals with the /api/v1/token/{symbol}/flow windows.

FAQ
Where to get Ethereum exchange inflow and outflow data by API?
Deep Blue Alpha’s API returns exchange deposits and withdrawals by 20,000+ tracked Ethereum whale wallets, labeled separately from DEX swaps, per move and per token over 24h/7d/30d. It is included in the Whale plan ($79.99/mo, 25,000 calls/day, personal use); Business ($299/mo, commercial use) opens soon. CryptoQuant and Glassnode publish exchange-wide netflow metrics. Facts as of Oct 16, 2026.
Is an exchange withdrawal the same as a whale buying?
No. A withdrawal means tokens left an exchange address for a wallet. It is commonly read as the accumulation side of flow, but it is not a purchase. Only DEX rows labeled SWAP_BUY or SWAP_SELL are trades.
What is the difference between DEX and CEX flow data?
CEX flow is tokens moving to or from known centralized-exchange addresses; DEX flow is swaps through on-chain pools and routers. In Deep Blue Alpha’s Oct 16, 2026 sample, 78% of tracked-whale rows were exchange moves and 22% were DEX swaps.
Does Deep Blue Alpha measure total exchange netflow for an asset?
No. It measures flow where the wallet on its side is one of 20,000+ tracked whales. Exchange-wide totals that include every exchange user are a different metric, published by providers such as CryptoQuant and Glassnode.
How far back does the exchange-flow data go?
Tracked-whale moves are kept permanently from October 7, 2026. Exchange-flow rows for wallets outside the tracked set are kept for a rolling 30 days.
Which exchanges are covered?
Moves are labeled when the counterparty is a known exchange address in Deep Blue Alpha’s address lists. A new or unlabeled exchange address can be missed; see /data/methodology for known limits.
